On-Site Art NYC Summer Program

Weeklong Art Classes ages 9-15

June 15-June 19 2020;

June 22-June 26 2020

June 29-July 2 2020;

August 17-August 21 2020

August 24-August 28 2020

Students will learn practical approaches to drawing, sketching, and water-coloring. Each class offers the opportunity to experiment with a variety of art materials while focusing on the basics including: form, proportion, expressive mark making, line quality, composition, linear perspective, proportion, value, shading, space and color. You will learn about the techniques of water-color, wet into wet, layering and transparent washes while exploring color.

Every morning we will meet in Central Park and draw and paint from either the landscape, cityscape, the figure and architectural themes, while honing our observation skills and looking closely at nature.

In the afternoon we will visit a museum along Museum Mile. The museums’ galleries offer ample choices for burgeoning artists to sharpen their talents and walk away from each lesson with new skills, tips and tricks.

Leave each day with the confidence to begin creating anything you like.

Learn to use a variety of materials; charcoal, pencil, water-color, oil pastels, water-soluble colored pencils, collage, micron pens.

Morning Activities: 9-11:30

We will meet every day in front of the Guggenheim Museum and walk to our morning location. Central Park offers great views and diversity. We will explore, draw and paint from its landscape and architecture. We will also work from a live model and paint nature studies. We will visit the Conservatory Garden, the Cooper Hewitt Museum Garden, the Met Rooftop and locations around the reservoir.

Lunch with Activity: 11:30-1:00

We will have a picnic lunch in the park everyday and you will have time to share with friends. I will introduce a variety of craft projects such as: macrame friendship bracelets and optical-art cubes. We will also find letters of the alphabet in nature to photograph.

Museum Afternoons: 1:00-3:00

Every afternoon we will visit a different museum along Museum Mile and draw and paint from a variety of exhibitions. We will visit the Met, the Guggenheim, the Neue Galerie, the Met Breuer and the Museum of Modern Art.
